A lit column, cinched at the waist. The Ashaa stands just over five feet tall on a narrow 7.9-inch footprint — a cage of slender vertical wood staves running the full height, with light rising between them. At one point along its height the staves flare outward and close again around a sculpted glass core, so the silhouette swells once and then returns to the line. Where that swell sits — low on the column or high — is the choice between the two styles.

What you see from across a room is a tall shaft of soft vertical light broken by a single detail. What you see up close is the joinery: every stave shaped and set, the gaps between them consistent from base to crown, and the glass at the centre held without visible fixings. At this height, in this narrow a section, there is nowhere for a shortcut to hide.

Why it works in a room

  • Vertical light, minimal footprint. Under 8 inches across but over 5 feet tall — it lights a corner and adds height without taking floor space.
  • Light through the gaps, not at you. The slatted cage shields the source, so the lamp gives a soft striped glow rather than a bright point. No glare from a seated position.
  • Solid wood and glass. Real timber staves with visible grain, and a glass core at the midpoint — two materials, no applied finishes pretending to be either.
  • One sculpted focal point. The glass core catches and holds light where the column widens — the single detail in an otherwise strict form, placed low or high depending on the style.
  • LED light source. The light runs the height of the column between the staves, with no bulb visible and nothing to change out.
  • Presence when unlit. During the day the column reads as a piece of furniture: dark timber, visible grain, architectural.

Two styles

Both stand Ø 7.9" x H 63" (20 x 160 cm) and both are the same price. The difference is where the glass ball sits on the column.

  • Style A — glass low. The swell and the glass core sit in the lower half of the column, closer to eye level for anyone seated. The weight of the piece reads low and grounded, and the lit detail falls where people sitting will see it.
  • Style B — glass high. The glass sits in the upper half, drawing the eye up the full height of the column. The lamp reads taller and more vertical, and the detail lands at standing eye level.

Choose A beside seating — a sofa, an armchair, a bed — where the room is viewed from a chair. Choose B in an entry, a hallway, or a stairwell, where the lamp is passed rather than sat beside, and where the extra apparent height is worth having.

Where to place it

The Ashaa is a corner and threshold piece. It works beside a sofa or an armchair, flanking a fireplace or a doorway as a pair, in the turn of a staircase, or in an entry where its height is read against a tall wall. Because the light is vertical and diffuse rather than directional, it is an ambient and atmospheric fixture — pair it with a reading light if the seat beside it is used for reading. Give it a plain wall behind: the striped glow through the staves is most visible against an uninterrupted surface, and it is lost in front of a bookcase or patterned wallpaper.

Frequently asked questions

How tall is the Ashaa floor lamp?

63 inches / 160 cm tall, on a 7.9 inch / 20 cm diameter footprint. It is a tall, narrow column rather than a wide-shaded floor lamp.

How much does it cost?

$2,900 USD, the same in Style A and Style B.

What is the difference between Style A and Style B?

The position of the glass ball. On Style A it sits low on the column, in the lower half; on Style B it sits high, in the upper half. Height, footprint, material, and construction are identical, and both are the same price. Style A suits a spot beside seating; Style B suits an entry or hallway where the lamp is seen standing.

What is the Ashaa made of?

Wood and glass. The vertical staves that form the column are timber, and the sculpted core on the column is glass. Because the wood is a natural material, grain and tone vary between pieces.

How much light does it give?

It is an ambient fixture. Light rises through the gaps between the vertical staves, giving a soft striped glow up the column rather than a directed pool. Use it for atmosphere and height in a room, and add a task or reading light where one is needed.

What is the light source?

LED. The light runs inside the column and emerges through the gaps between the wood staves, so there is no visible bulb.

Will it work outside the United States?

Yes. It accepts AC 110-220 V and is certified for the United States, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Europe, so it runs on either a 120 V or a 220 V supply. Contact us to confirm the plug type for your country before ordering.

Does it take up much floor space?

Very little. The base is under 8 inches across, so it fits in a corner, beside a chair, or in a narrow gap where a conventional floor lamp with a wide shade would not.

Can it be used outdoors?

No. It is an indoor fixture.
